New on the Blog: 7 Signs you might be too busy (+how to simplify).β β One of my favorite quotes came to mind last week as many of our friends and family returned from their spring break vacations. "Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from." (Seth Godin) Of course, I don't think there is anything wrong with enjoying a vacation or anticipating times of rest and renewal... however, the quote carries an element of truth in the sense that it's easy to get so caught up in the rat-race of daily life that we feel we need, or even deserve, an escape. We find ourselves "working for the weekend" as the saying goes, instead of working for the love of whatever it is we do (even if we don't get a paycheck). My challenge for you this week is to view all of your "work" (even cooking, cleaning, and child care) as a form of love and service to others -- not just as something you need to finish before you can reward yourself with a break. I hope this simple mindset shift makes a difference for you! β β Simple Food. Lemon desserts are my go-to recipes for early spring as they feel "light" and refreshing (even though they aren't always light on calories!) Lemons are the perfect burst of spring flavor before other spring fruits ripen. Try my recipe --> Easy Lemon Squaresβ β Organized Home. Maintaining a neat and orderly home is a never-ending NOTE: I first shared this post 4 years ago and I'm still following all 5 tips today (they really do make a huge difference for our home!) Keep reading --> The 5 things I do every day. β Intentional Living. It's that time of year again... all the busyness of spring has sprung! Today I'm sharing 7 signs that you might have reached your "busyness breaking point" and a few easy solutions to help you scale back and simplify (starting today!) Learn more --> 7 Signs you're too busy (+how to simplify). β In other news... Free Paper Shredding! If you're local to West Michigan, you can get up to 5 bags of paper shredded for free NEXT WEEK through the Macatawa Bank Shred days. We plan to drop off a bag now that I'm finished weeding through our filing drawer! β Science spectacular: Head out for an early-morning walk on April 23 and you might just get a glimpse of a rare planetary alignment. Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and the Moon will all be aligned and visible on the East horizon (for US viewers) before sunrise. β Quick Cleaning Tip: I mentioned my love for lemons in the spring... but that's not just for eating. Did you know that you can use lemons to clean your chrome bathroom fixtures in roughly 30 seconds! Just rub a cut lemon on your fixtures and rinse with water! β Spring Fashion Deals: (affiliate link) I've used ThredUp regularly for almost 10 years now and although their prices have risen (like everything else), I can still usually find a few great bargains for myself and the kids. If you're looking for a deal on gently used clothing and want to get $10 off your first purchase, hop on over to ThredUp and see what you can find. β They did it! The kiddos all successfully memorized Matthew 28:1-10 before Easter and they all got their candy... I didn't get a video though (sorry). We're moving on to Ephesians 6:10-20 -- the Armor of God! β That's all for today... be sure to read my tips for beating unnecessary busyness in your life. ~Andrea |
