New on the Blog: The Hidden Costs of More Almost exactly 15 years ago, I entered a local cooking contest (this was before social media, so I entered by snail mail!) with my recipe for Gnocchi with Browned Butter Sauce. I was eventually selected as a finalist to cook "live" for the judges one Saturday afternoon in March! At 21 years old, I was the youngest contestant and I still remember one of the much older ladies who gave me so much encouragement while I nervously cooked for the judges. I didn't win, but I did get 3rd place... oh, the memories! Last night, I made that same gnocchi with Nora (for Chicken and Gnocchi soup) and told her all about the cooking contest -- she was impressed! One of these days, I'll get around to sharing the recipe on the blog! Simple Food. Our kids LOOOOOVE condiments, so Mexican meals are always a big hit because of all the salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, etc. I love easy one-dish meals... which means this recipe is a winner (it's much easier than my gnocchi recipe too!) Last week, I excitedly weeded through our filing cabinet, recycling as much as I could (I always wait until after our taxes are finished to do this). I got in a paper-decluttering groove and ended up going through 2 big bins of papers for one of the committees I'm on at church. Ahh... it was a good week! When was the last time you stopped to consider any hidden costs of the various things in your home or the many activities on your calendar? If it's been a while, let me help jog your memory (I promise I won't make you get rid of everything you own!) Keep reading --> The Hidden Costs of More. In other news... Several of you asked to see the artwork from Nora's online watercolor class... she said I could share. Not bad for 10! Of course, the other kids wanted me to take pictures of their latest creations too. I love that they are all "creative" in their own ways. Have a great week, friends -- I'll see you back here the same time next week! ~Andrea p.s. I'm reading Jennie Allen's newest book (Find Your People) and listening to the corresponding podcast "book club". The idea is to go through the book with a small group of local people -- which I don't have yet since I just got my book yesterday 😂 But I thought I'd throw an invitation out in case other locals are reading the book and want to get together. Email me! p.p.s. Don't forget to read this week's post about The Hidden Costs of More. |
