Short on time? Read: Crowd-Pleasing Cheeseburger Soup Over the last 15 years, I've spent tens of thousands of hours championing the messages of "simple living" and "organization" in countless workshops, classrooms, homes, and blog posts. In the beginning, my focus was mainly on the "what" and "how"... after all, life is better with organized closets and a weekly meal plan, right!? 🤣 Now I find myself more focused on the "whys". Yes, I love a well-organized home and a well-planned menu... but the real benefits of simple living lie far beyond the insides of our closets or refrigerator. So why is simple living worth my effort? One word: FREEDOM!
If you're feeling overwhelmed with the chaos and disorganization in your home or life, I challenge you to stop focusing on the "whats" and "hows" and hone in on YOUR "why". You might even want to write it down and post it where you'll see if every day. Maybe that will motivate you to give it another go -- you can do this! Simple Food. Soup is on constant rotation in the Dekker house during cold winter months, and today's recipe for Cheeseburger Soup is one I've wanted to share with you for years, but never got around to it until this week. Our whole family loves this recipe... I think yours will too! Try my recipe --> Cheeseburger Soup Organized Home. Whether you do an official "spring clean" or not, I'd love to help you save money by making your own cleaning products (it's not difficult!) I've been making the majority of my cleaning products for years (including make-up brush cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, and foaming hand soap). Learn more --> My favorite DIY cleaners. Intentional Living. If you asked me for one piece of advice that could positively affect every area of your life, I'd say: "get more sleep"! Yes, from the mother who had babies who didn't sleep, who eventually hired a sleep consultant, and who still regularly wakes up (by choice) around 5am! I'm still constantly amazed how much easier, less stressful, and more enjoyable all aspects of my life are when I'm well-rested (which is a lot easier to do these days)! Keep reading --> The effects of sleep on everything. In other news... I'm slowly working my way through each room, closet, drawer, bin, and basket in our home. I'm literally doing 15-20 minutes at a time and making great progress! My goal is to get through everything except the kids' clothes before Spring Break. We'll tackle that together when the kids are home. I've said it before... never underestimate the power of a 20-minute timer! Simon's birthday weekend was a huge success! He had so much fun with his classmates too. He got 4 footballs, 4 rock kits, and 8 packages of candy (they know him so well.) Can you believe this boy is 8?! We gave Nora online water-painting classes for Christmas (along with the necessary supplies) and she has thoroughly enjoyed painting various animals, foods, elements of nature, etc. Obviously, I'm not biased... but she's really good! 😍 Gas prices rose to over $4 per gallon around here... what are prices by you? The price increase doesn't affect our family too much as we live the majority of our lives within 10 square miles. However, if you're concerned about rising fuel prices, I encourage you to look for ways to spend more time at home. Cook, read, play games, work in the garden, clean, organize, bring cookies to neighbors, and hang out with family. I watched IF:Gathering online this past weekend -- it was so good! I believe you can still purchase an online access pass to watch all the main sessions and breakouts. I highly recommend all the IF: resources if you're looking for practical ways to grow in your faith. That's all for today. Let me know if you try my cheeseburger soup, and feel free to email me your "whys" for simple living... sometimes it helps to have accountability! Have a great week, Andrea |
