Short on time? Read: Easy Fruit Pizza Dessert At the start of every new year, I get lots of questions about our "morning routine", as well as how I structure our mornings to facilitate a calm, yet efficient, start to the day. And although I've written dozens of posts about our morning routines, I'll share 2 more simple ideas here today... 1. The kids almost always sleep in their clothes. They shower at night, put on clean clothes, and then go to bed. When morning comes, we don't argue about "what to wear" and they have one less thing to do before leaving the house. Weird? Sort of. Helpful? Absolutely! 2. The first thing I do every morning is brush my teeth and drink roughly 16 oz. of water. Brushing my teeth helps me feel SO much more awake and "with it", and drinking all that water is good for my entire body. Neither of these ideas require an earlier alarm or really much extra time, but they could have a profound effect on your morning (and your entire day!) Simple Food. Fruit pizza is one of our favorite desserts -- probably because I don't make it all that often. But I made it over the weekend and we enjoyed a little "taste of summer" in the middle of February! My recipe is ridiculously easy (you can even use store-bought sugar cookie dough) and it's a great way to use up whatever fruit you have in the house. If so, check out my favorite farmhouse paint colors -- they work so well together and have really brought our 130-year-old farmhouse back to life these last 10 years! So many of you have asked how I've been able to stay away from social media for the last 20+ months... I have 2 tips. (ONE) I completely deleted all social apps from my phone. (TWO) I use the "News Feed Eradicator" extension for my internet browser and have it set to "eradicate" my Facebook and Instagram feed -- so I literally can not access those feeds from my phone or computer. This free extension was a game-changer for me! Speaking of less social media... Sarah from Memories on Clover Lane has been one of my best online friends for more than a decade now. She is a mother of 6 (her youngest is right around Nora's age) and has so much wisdom regarding all things family and home. Sometimes, I think we share the same brain because we think so similarly about home, family, simplifying, food, and... social media! Sarah recently shared her thoughts on turning away from more and embracing less... it's a great read. I ordered our family's 2021 photo book from Blurb a couple of weeks ago (I finally got a good coupon code) and the kids have loved looking through it daily! We rented Encanto (aff. link) from Amazon Prime for family movie night. The kids had been begging to watch it... I wasn't as eager since it all seemed very "witch-crafty" to me. The magic part wasn't as "witchy" as I thought it would be, but overall, I didn't think the movie lived up to the hype. Our children disagreed with me though! I read another really thought-provoking book over the weekend -- Domestic Monastery (aff. link). The book compares monastic life to family life and looks at the spirituality of being a parent. It's less than 100 pages, but I have so many highlighted notes I want to look back on. One of the phrases that really stuck out to me was when the author stressed the importance of RITUALS, ROUTINES, and REGULAR RHYTHMS in sustaining a healthy spiritual life AND a healthy home life. Can I get an Amen!? Here are some of the routines that work for our family. That's all for this week. Let me know if you try my fruit pizza! Andrea |
