Building for the Future
Make Developing Leaders Your Resolution
How are current education leaders working to create future leaders? We asked Jami Pogue, the CHRO at the University of Nebraska Foundation, to share her experience.

Pogue's advice for leaders working to promote a developmental mindset for managers:

"One of the most pivotal and memorable concepts that came out of our Boss to Coach learning journey was 'Listening is the new leadership.' This resonated with us, and we are doing all we can to equip managers to have meaningful, developmental and generative conversations with their team members.

We also encourage managers to 'mine the gold of a success' when a team member hits one out of the park. There is so much to learn about someone's strengths, motivations, what is most satisfying and how to best position them for future projects in having developmental conversations following a great success."

Pogue's New Year's initiatives for developing leaders:

"We are going all-in with equipping managers to be coaches to drive engagement, wellbeing and performance. So much is driven by the manager, so we are investing here, starting with our executive team to lead and model development through coaching.

We are trying to embed coaching into the fabric of our organization, knitting it into what we already do operationally, only making it more impactful and developmental. We are counting on this to help us retain our talent also."
