Welcome to this edition of the Gallup Brief, giving you our top five reads: | 1. Capitalism Still King, Sort of | | Capitalism remains positively viewed by six in 10 Americans, while socialism as a brand has made little progress, stuck at 38%. More Democrats view socialism positively (65%) than view capitalism positively (52%). But while a majority of Republicans (56%) have positive views of "big business," more than half of Americans in general (53%) view it negatively. Read Article | | 2. Feeling Down | | Despite a lower unemployment rate and fewer COVID-19 social restrictions than at this time last year, America's mental health remains the lowest this century. About one in three U.S. adults (34%) currently rate their mental health as "excellent," down from 43% in 2019. This figure highlights how many people's mental health has not recovered since the pandemic began in 2020. Read Article | | 3. Trusting Your Doc While Republican | | Our 20-year trend reveals that trust in the advice our doctors give us is not holding up among Republicans. Historically, Republicans have been slightly more likely than Democrats to say they have confidence in their doctor's advice, but Republicans' trust has dropped from 73% in 2010 to 60% in 2021. Republicans are also more likely than Democrats to say they have "less trust and confidence" in advice from their doctor than they did a year ago. Read Article | | 4.
