October 2021: Applying Your Strengths

This month's newsletter is a special one. To kick off the final quarter of the year, we wanted to take some time to walk through a strengths exercise. The next few months are busy. Holidays are coming up, performance and development conversations are just around the corner, and you'll be spending more time with friends and family. These months can be filled with joy and stress — probably both — which is why focusing on your strengths is so important to carry you through. To improve anything, you have to start by exerting some effort — then continually build on that effort. The same goes with your strengths. Let's work through an exercise together to become more mindful and focused. | | Think about your top five strengths (or a natural strength if you don't know your top five). Think of one that you remember emerging early in your life. When did that strength show up brilliantly for you? What were you doing? Who were you with? What did it look like? Did someone care for that talent in you? How did somebody really honor it early on? Now, think about how that same talent theme plays out in your life today. Who appreciates that strength in you? How do they do that? Now, try to finish these sentences (in writing or thought): 1) "A great talent of mine is …" 2) "I feel that others appreciate this talent when …" | This exercise will help you see how your talents grow in the context of relationships. Look for ways to continue increasing your strengths awareness — because as you grow in awareness, you also grow in your capacity to succeed. Don't know your strengths?
